Dual Fuel Heat Pumps by Treat’s Heating & Cooling

Choosing the right heating & cooling equipment for your home can be a lot of work because of all the choices out there.  Treat’s Heating & Cooling would like to share a few facts with you on why Dual Fuel Heat Pumps are energy efficient and work as a combined unit providing ultimate comfort.

A duel fuel heating & cooling system will change between the furnace and the heat pump according to the balance point.  The temperature at which the system switches from one mode to the other is called the balance point.  You should be able to reduce the amount of energy that you home consumes based on this calculation.  You should be aware that there are two different forms of the balance point.

  • Physical balance pint is the outdoor temperature at which the heat pump will no longer be able to maintain your thermostat’s temperature setting.  This will typically fall between 30 and 40 degrees.
  • Economic balance point is the outdoor temperature at which the furnace will operate more efficiently than the heat pump.  Typically between 30 and 40 degrees.

What makes a dual fuel system so ideal is that is alternates between two energy sources depending on outdoor conditions.  A heating & cooling system all in one, the heat pump functions on both a heating & cooling system reducing gas fuel consumption.  On really cold days the gas furnace becomes the primary heat source, ensuring the maximum comfort level.
