Treat’s Heating & Cooling would like to share some myths that are associated with keeping your home cooler in the hot summer months.
- I won’t lose cool air if windows and doors are kept closed – Keeping windows and doors does keep cool air from escaping but cool air can still escape from unsealed doors, windows, ductwork and electrical outlets.
- Dropping the thermostat setting to low will cool the house quickly – The air handler in your air conditioning system can only move warm air at a set speed. By setting the thermostat to a low temperature, you are wasting energy and your home will not cool any faster.
- Closing vents in unused rooms will make the air conditioning more efficient – the energy has already been expended to cool the air flow through the ducts, by closing the vent all you will do is cool the inside of the ducts
