Thermostats by Treat’s Heating & Cooling

Thermostats are available in almost every home for controlling the temperature inside.  They range from manual to the more advanced programmable and touchscreen. Here are some of the most common types of thermostats available for purchase and installation.

Line Voltage Thermostats

Line voltage thermostats are used in single heating systems such as radiating heat.  With this thermostat the electricity flows from the thermostat directly into the heater.

Low voltage Thermostats

Low voltage thermostats are much more energy efficient.  These are more commonly used in central heating systems.  With a low voltage thermostat you have greater more efficient control of the electricity, especially with programmable controls.

Mechanical Thermostats

Mechanical thermostats are considered old fashioned as they involve mostly manual processes. This is a dial thermostat that uses a mercury bulb. Even though all of the variants are simple and cost efficient, they are not able to offer the convenience of modern thermostats.

Electronic thermostats

Electronic thermostats are much more advanced and are able to automatically sense and respond to changes in temperature. They tend to be far more accurate and more energy efficient.

Programmable Thermostats

Programmable thermostats are a subtype of electronic thermostats. With programmable thermostats, you can set a specific temperature variation for specific times of the day and week keeping your home at the exact temperature you want it without the hassle of constantly updating it. This can save you money as you do not need to heat your house when no one is there to enjoy it.

Understanding the different types of thermostats helps you make the best possible choice for your home.  Mechanical thermostats are cheaper but the energy efficient and modern conveniences of electronic and programmable thermostats make them a superior choice.
