Air Conditioning by Treat’s Heating & Cooling

Nothing is worse than going to turn your air conditioning on in extremely hot weather and it starts blowing warm air instead of cool air.  Here are a few tips you can try before calling Treat’s Heating & Cooling for service.

Check the thermostat: Sometimes the air conditioning is not actually on, but the fan is what will cause you to think that the air conditioning is blowing warm air.  Make sure the cooling is in the position and the fan is set to auto.  This will only allow the fan to run when the air conditioning is in cooling mode.  If it is still not blowing cold air, the thermostat may not be triggering the cooling cycle properly.

You can remove the thermostat to check if it is wired properly.  An improperly wired thermostat may not be turning the cooling cycle on, but only the fan which blows warm air by sucking it through the intake.  When the cooling cycle is functioning properly, coils are filled with cold gas and the air passes over and is blown back out about 15 degrees colder.

If the coils are clogged by debris the airflow is not going to be efficient.  After the coils are cleaned, you should notice a difference in air flow.  Sometimes the outside unit may get clogged or blocked with debris as well.  The outdoor unit should not be blocked by any branches or items surrounding it to ensure efficiency.
