It’s fairly easy to get a little overexcited about air conditioning once those 90 degree days start appearing more and more frequently during the summer months. However, there are plenty of ways you can remain comfortable in your home in the coming months without having to spend an arm and a leg on your energy bill.

    1. Turn Your A/C Down When You Aren’t Home
We know it is tempting to leave your air cranked all day while you are at work so that when you come home it feels as if you are entering an igloo of delight. However, leaving your air conditioner on blast all day long is going to cost you. We suggest increasing your thermostat to between 74 and 79 during the day when you are away that way you don’t feel guilty for blaring the air once you are in for the evening.
    2. Use Fans
This may seem like a no-brainer but using fans in your home can sufficiently cut down the cost of your energy bill. Especially at night when the temperature outside has dropped, try opening some windows and letting the fan circulate the fresh summer air throughout your home. Not only is it a cheap way to cool off but hearing the soft chirp of crickets as you fall asleep near an open window can be quite enjoyable.
    3. Utilize Your Basement
The most enjoyable place to spend a miserably hot day is in the cool catacombs of your basement. As it is underground you can guarantee that your basement will be at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of your home. When you feel yourself sweating upstairs, head down to the basement for a nice cool break.
